He was a talented ruler, who claimed all of Norway to himself. He attacked and eventually captured all England, establishing the seeds of what later became the North Sea Empire of Canute the Great. Much to his unluck – five weeks after capturing the lands of the Anglo-Saxons, he fell from his horse and died.

She was the only female ruler in the recorded Anglo-Saxons history. After King Alfred’s death, Aethelflaed’s older brother, Edward came to power and she supported him. Both stood for a unified, strong Anglo-Saxon England to fend off the Vikings.
